FIRST ENTRY
I
am sure some of you are aware that the former Atlantis Apartments at Shore Road and Maryland Avenue in Somers Point have been
converted to units available for U.S. Veterans who need a "hand up" to get their lives back in order for a variety
of reasons. I know that all of you are aware that I lost my brother, John, last winter to a brain tumor and that he
was a Navy Pilot during the Vietnam War. In his memory and honor, I've decided to make the Veterans Point my personal
project. I've contacted George Benner, who is the liaison between the veterans and the public at Veterans Point,
and he has provided me with a list of needs for the first six veterans who are already moved into their new homes. I am sending this list to you in the hope that you will look around your homes to see if you
have any "extra" furniture or furnishings IN GOOD CONDITION that you would be willing to donate to this worthy cause.
I am also asking if you would look into your heart, and make a donation in the form of a gift card to Shop Rite in Somers
Point. I will obtain tax donation receipts for you if you so desire. I can also pick up furniture (Nancy, this
is a request to occasionally borrow your truck!) but will need help in actual loading of heavier items. I am the daughter of a veteran, wife of a veteran and sister of two veterans. I believe in our American
way of life and those people who have defended our country. I hope you will find a way to help these men, too.
